As much as I enjoyed all his covers, I took it as a bad sign that he wasn't really coming up with any new material. He might be done and in hiding. I think it's easy to experience artistic burnout (not necessarily , but perhaps?) and maybe he needs a break. I couldn't remember the last show I went to so I looked it up--it was just over a year ago. So it's not really that long of a break.

From and article in September 2014....
TDR: So when do you think you’ll be releasing an album?
Riggs: Definitely some time within the next year. I’m thinking of doing two albums: one of completely original material and one of my renditions of old songs....

If memory serves me right I remember Moon pretty recently saying that Dax is currently in the studio working on the new album which is why he isn't touring at the moment.

My theories are, in order of (in)plausibility
1. Dax is preparing for his super secret Finnish tour
2. Reality is Dax's dream and nothing is real
3. David Bowie came by on his spaceship and finally took Dax back to his home planet/dimension
4. Dax lays low for a while longer and then, when everyone least expects it, he comes out like BOOM! FIVE MOTHERFUCKING ALBUMS then clicks his heels 3 times and disappears like the magical mystical fairy that he is

All of these theories may be realities on different astral planes as we speak. Or they could all happen at once.
I'm at the first Finnish gig at Tavastia right now, even

If there ever was a universe where Dax played a Finnish tour, it would look like this:

It's been a whole year and a few months since the last Dax tour. I don't care about an album any more, just come back

These were a teaser from one of the Austin guys that played in Say Goodnight. I think these are from I think August last year. Who posted them said that they are in the studio and getting ready for a tour.
And not a word since!

As much as I would love to hear new Dax, I've learned patience from other artists at this point. As long as it gets released eventually and not canned. Four years is annoying but not at all strange for me, being a fan of the the artists I am a fan of...
I started out in metal with Metallica, and even though I'm not super passionate about them like I was, I still always enjoy hearing that they have something new they're working on. 8 years between albums. I really enjoyed that first Wintersun album and was excited to hear Time. Then after a 6 year wait, it turned out he was releasing it in two parts. Part one took 6 years to come out, and part two hasn't come out yet, 5 years later. He's actually announced another album coming out before Time II. He could always pull a Michale Graves and go silent for about 5 years and then put out like 6 albums in 3 years.
All this shit makes me appreciate Devin Townsend and his pace of "it's weird if he doesn't release at least one album per year, if not three."

He was in the extreme metal band Strapping Young Lad from 1994 until 2007
He's been putting out solo albums for a while too, and has a shitload of material. He's got a pretty decent but cult following. He's I guess sort of big in semi-underground metal? I dunno, most people who listen to metal know him, but he's not a household name like Metallica or Black Sabbath.

Just another note that its now been 7 years. "Say goodnight to the world" was released in 2010. Same year as the Haiti earthquake.
